Healthcare Assistants (HCAs) are an essential part of patient care

Healthcare Assistants (HCAs) assist nurses with looking after patients. Typical duties include washing and feeding, changing beds and taking patients’s weight and temperature. If you are interested in working as an HCA, please review the guidelines below before registering with us:

• 6 months relevant clinical experience
• NVQ Health and Social Care levels 1 and 2 preferred, but not essential
• From April 1st 2015, all new HCAs in the UK will be required to complete the Care Certificate, irrespective of whether they work in the public or private sector
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Good record keeping skills
• Confidentiality skills are a must
• Willing to work unsociable hours, including weekends
• Excellent team player

HCAs work in a variety of settings, including:

• GP surgeries
• Residential homes
• Hospitals

Working as a HCA can be incredibly rewarding. It is a great way to gain healthcare experience and further your career.
